Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi, who usually goes by Dani, comes across as a light-hearted, rock-loving thirty year old. Underneath the jovial demeanour however is a deeply committed viticulturist. Dani’s two Sierra de Gredos projects, Comando G and his eponymous label, have attracted the highest praise from the likes of Jancis Robinson, Andrew Jefford, Luis Gutiérrez and Victor de la Serna.Dani’s wines are farmed around the town of El Real de San Vicente in the Valle del Tiétar, which lies south of the Gredos along the edges of the Méntrida DO. These place names take prime position on Dani’s labels, acknowledging a desire to express a sense of place with as much precision as possible. From valley to village to individual plot, each bottle is clearly traceable to the piece of land it represents.Las Uvas de la Ira is the village wine of San Vicente, a town in the Valle del Tietar subzone of the Sierra de Gredos, although using the 'village' probably undersells the calibre of the wine. In this wild and beautiful mountain range old bush vines of Grenache grow in granite soils at extreme altitudes. This combination of old vines, granitic soils, altitude and Dani's exacting viticultural work results in beautifully poised, elegant Garnacha. Full of energetic acidity and mouthwatering pomegranate and raspberry fruit. Compared to our other Gredos producers, Las Uvas de la Ira tends to be a touch more muscular than it's stable mate, Comando G's La Bruja de Rozas and a touch more direct and linear than Bodegas Maranones' softer fruited style.

About the wine

Tasting notes

An elegant and delicate Garnacha/Grenache that has power and drive without heaviness. Beautifully fresh and crisp red berries, pomegranate, black cherry, wild raspberry and hints of plum drive with an old world savoury edge, textured with fleshy tannins, a seam of minerality and lovely acidity. It’s full of flavour, medium bodied and light on its feet. What a great wine!

The Grape

Grenache

Grenache, (or Garnacha), is one of the most important red grape varieties in the world and is responsible for some of the most expensive and collected wines out there. It's the key variety for making elegant Châteauneuf-du-Pape and rich GSM's, but is brilliant as a stand alone variety and makes wines with a medium body, but intense and often spicy flavours of deep red fruits, black cherry, charred plum, leather, blood orange, dried herbals and cinnamon. From crisp and crunchy, to velvety and rich, this versatile grape is awesome!
