DOUBLE TROPHY WINNERThe name MARAnanga Shiraz is a play on words, Mara Georgiadis co-owner and Marananga the region where our two vineyards are located. Each parcel of Shiraz was hand harvested at optimal phenological ripeness and destemmed to open top fermenters with heading down boards.Twice daily pumpovers were carried out to ensure maximum extraction of colour, flavour and tannin from the grape skins. The wine was basket pressed to one and two-year-old French oak Hogsheads for 18 months maturation. The wine is unfined and unfiltered.

Expert review

A deeply-flavoured robust red which speaks fluently of its Barossa heartland offering. Dark cherry, black plum, a choc-mint elenent, some biscuity oak and liquorice in the mix. Brooding, rich feel with a good chew of lanky, long chains of tannin too. It feels warming and well balanced in all its elements, potent and offering drinkers a good version of the hearty stuff. Good feel here.

The Grape

Shiraz or Syrah

Shiraz, or Syrah, is one of the most loved, rich and powerful red wine varieties made famous for its mineral and structured expressions from the Rhône in France and the rich and decadent fruity expressions from the Barossa Valley in Australia. Full bodied, rich in antioxidants and generously fruity, Shiraz sits proudly on the table for those that like their wine big and bold. Think violets, blackberries, plum, chocolate, pepper, black olive, liquorice, rosemary, tobacco and spice...i'm thirsty already!
