This Shiraz is made from a block I like to think of as an underdog. These small block of old vines are very low yielding so previously this block always had to be blended away. However the wines we make are very small batch so we have the ability to keep tiny parcels like this separate and give them the attention to detail that these lovely old vines deserve. It has finally made it into bottle as a single vineyard and has been gold medal as well. Not bad for the little block that previously never had a chance to shine. Drink now to 10 Years Pair with rib eye beef, char grilled veggies or a gourmet burgerVineyard:This wine was made 100% from grapes from our family's vineyard in Bethany, Barossa Valley. This Shiraz is made from my favourite Shiraz block in our family's vineyard. These mature vines produce Shiraz with dense aroma, flavour and tannin. The aroma and flavour always showing an element of complexity not seen in other blocks I've worked with.100% Barossa Valley vineyards.Winemaking :The grapes were machine harvested in the cold, middle of the night (literally!) and crushed into two small stainless steel open fermenters and a brand-new hogshead barrel for fermentation. I used two of my favourite yeast to enhance aroma intensity and overall complexity. Once the wine was pressed off skins, it was transferred into a brand-new hogshead barrel (my favourite Shiraz oak) and two old oak barriques for maturation. The wine was racked and returned to oak once during maturation to build palate softness. The wine was aged for approximately 15 months prior to bottling.

The Grape

Shiraz or Syrah

Shiraz, or Syrah, is one of the most loved, rich and powerful red wine varieties made famous for its mineral and structured expressions from the Rhône in France and the rich and decadent fruity expressions from the Barossa Valley in Australia. Full bodied, rich in antioxidants and generously fruity, Shiraz sits proudly on the table for those that like their wine big and bold. Think violets, blackberries, plum, chocolate, pepper, black olive, liquorice, rosemary, tobacco and spice...i'm thirsty already!
